US Congresswoman chastises the head of the Secret Service over the Trump rally assault

Congresswoman Nancy Mace of the United States challenged Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle at a contentious hearing questioning the agency's transparency regarding an event involving Trump's gunshot and a leaked opening statement. Cheatle responded, "no idea," and "I will have to get back to you on that," several times. Mace accused Cheatle of being untrustworthy, calling her a "full of s***."

The impeachment motion made by Mace is privileged and needs to be decided upon in two parliamentary days. Mace highlighted in a tweet the historic significance of this action and the unprecedented step of impeaching a lower-ranking civil officer.

Following the shooting, lawmakers are voicing worries about security lapses, placing the Secret Service under close examination—particularly in relation to Cheatle. Bipartisan calls for Cheatle's resignation have been made by Jamie Raskin and James Comer, the leaders of the Oversight Committee, but she has refused them.
